The only ingredient that beer battered chicken requires that is not used in any regular fried chicken recipe is, not surprisingly, beer. The flavor of the beer is deliciously incorporated into each piece of fried chicken, and that is why it may be better to batter the chicken twice when making this type of fried chicken, as doing so results in a stronger, more noticeable flavor. The same techniques used to prepare beer battered chicken also work when cooking beer battered shrimp, calamari, and fish.
